Tanya Clay House, Federal Legislation
Tanya Clay House oversees People For the American Way’s work on civil rights and civil liberties, election reform, religious liberty, and other civil rights issues. A former aide to Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), House attended the University of Michigan and earned her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law.
Michele Lawrence Jawando, Policy and Legislative Counsel
Michele Lawrence Jawando specializes in voting rights, election reform, and civil rights, working closely with colleagues in other organizations and coalitions to effectively integrate legal, field, public policy and other components. She has been involved in action to challenge discriminatory laws and practices, including in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and in Virginia during the 2006 mid-term elections. A former staffer for U.S. Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY), she attended Hampton University and earned her law degree at the University of North Carolina.
Sharon Lettman, PFAW Vice President for External Affairs and Director of National Programs and Outreach
Sharon Lettman will lead an advisory team of PFAW/F senior staffers overseeing the project. The Democracy Campaign combines the existing efforts of our EP 365 work with our voting rights litigation and our state legislative campaigns in an integrated program to identify problems in our election systems, address them through legislation and through the courts, and protect the right of all Americans to cast a vote that will be counted.
